Mental Health Support

Overview

Create Allied Health's mental health support services are delivered by AASW-registered social workers who specialise in risk assessment, safety planning, NDIS access for psychosocial disability, and connecting clients and families to the right specialist services. We work at the intersection of mental health and social systems to ensure people receive the support they need.

Risk Assessment & Safety Planning

Our clinical social workers are experienced in assessing and responding to mental health risk, including:

  • Clinical assessment of suicidal ideation and self-harm risk
  • Collaborative safety planning with clients, families, and treating teams
  • Crisis support and de-escalation
  • Connection to appropriate crisis services and ongoing supports

NDIS Access for Psychosocial Disability

Many people living with severe and persistent mental illness are eligible for the NDIS but do not know how to access it. We provide:

  • Evidence gathering from treating psychiatrists, psychologists, and GPs
  • Detailed functional impact documentation demonstrating how psychosocial disability affects daily life
  • Complete application preparation and submission
  • Advocacy and appeal support throughout the process

Mental Health Service Navigation

The mental health system can be difficult to navigate. We help clients connect to the right services, including:

  • Psychiatrists and psychologists
  • Community mental health teams
  • Trauma-specific services
  • Addiction and dual diagnosis services
  • Peer support and recovery programs

Family & Carer Education

Supporting someone with a mental health condition can be challenging. We work with families and carers to provide:

  • Education about mental health conditions and what to expect
  • Practical coping strategies for families and carers
  • Connection to the Carer Gateway and carer-specific supports
  • Family advocacy within the mental health and disability systems

Crisis Response

When a mental health crisis occurs, we provide rapid clinical support including:

  • Assessment of immediate risk and safety needs
  • Connection to immediate crisis supports and emergency services
  • Liaison with hospitals, emergency departments, and crisis teams
  • Post-crisis planning and follow-up

Systems Navigation & Advocacy

Mental health challenges often intersect with multiple systems. We advocate and navigate on behalf of clients across:

  • Centrelink and income support
  • Housing services and social housing applications
  • Specialist disability services
  • Employment support programs

Important Note

We do not provide ongoing therapy, PTSD treatment, or psychological counselling. We assess, plan, educate, and connect clients to specialist mental health services for treatment. Our role is to ensure clients are linked to the right clinicians and have the psychosocial supports in place to engage with treatment effectively.
